Yes, November is a good month to explore Kasol by bike, as long as you ride between about 10 am and 4 pm. It is one of the driest months of the year in the Kullu valley, so most days are clear, but nights drop close to freezing and the deep Parvati valley loses its sun well before the 5:15 to 5:30 pm sunset. Manikaran, Barshaini, Tosh and the Chalal walk all still work as day plans; Kheerganga needs a night near the road head because of the forest department's 10 am cut-off.
Below: what the weather data says about November, the daily riding window, five rides and walks that suit the month, how to fit Kheerganga in, what to check on the roads, which bike to rent and what to pack. Facts and prices are current as of 25 October 2026.
If you are already picking dates, see the bikes and scooters available on Hire N Ride in Kasol, then read on to plan the days around them.
Key takeaways
- Weather: at Bhuntar, the nearest IMD station, November averages about 25.5 mm of rain on fewer than two rainy days, with mean temperatures of about 4.6 °C at night and 23.1 °C by day (1971 to 2000). Kasol, roughly 500 m higher, is colder.
- Riding window: about 10 am to 4 pm. Sunrise at Kasol moves from about 6:37 am on 1 November to 7:02 am on 30 November, and sunset from about 5:30 pm to 5:15 pm, but the valley floor is in shade well before that.
- This week: IMD Shimla's bulletin of 25 October forecasts isolated rain or snow on 25 October, dry weather from 26 to 29 October and no weather warnings for the week. The Kullu forecast shows 8 to 10 °C at night and 25 to 27 °C by day.
- Kheerganga: day visits only since July 2024. Reach the top before 10 am and start down by 2 pm. In November that means sleeping at Barshaini, Kalga, Nakthan or Tosh the night before.
- Roads: Kasol to Manikaran (about 4 km) is the easy core. Check the Ghatigad stretch before riding on to Barshaini, about 16 to 20 km from Kasol.
- Fuel: fill up around Jari, about 9 km below Kasol, before heading upriver.
- Bikes in Kasol: Suzuki Avenis scooter from Rs 739 a day and Royal Enfield Hunter 350 from Rs 1,399 a day on 25 October 2026.
What November weather in Kasol really looks like
There is no IMD weather station in Kasol itself. The closest long-running one is at Bhuntar airport, at the mouth of the Parvati valley, and its climate table is the most reliable guide to the month. According to the IMD climatological table for Bhuntar airport (1971 to 2000), November looks like this:
| Month at Bhuntar | Mean daily minimum | Mean daily maximum | Mean rainfall | Rainy days |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| October | 9.9 °C | 27.9 °C | 27.9 mm | 1.9 |
| November | 4.6 °C | 23.1 °C | 25.5 mm | 1.8 |
| December | 1.8 °C | 17.5 °C | 41.4 mm | 2.6 |
November is about as dry as October, with rain on fewer than two days in an average month, so roads and trails are usually dry. The nights, though, get much colder. The average minimum drops by about 5 °C from October to November, and Kasol sits roughly 500 m higher than Bhuntar, so expect colder mornings than these figures. A sunny afternoon can still feel warm in a T-shirt; the same road at 8 am needs gloves and a jacket.
The weather this week
A western disturbance brought light rain and snow to the higher parts of Himachal on 24 October. The IMD Shimla bulletin issued on 25 October expects isolated rain or snow on 25 October, mainly dry weather from 26 to 29 October and isolated activity again on 30 and 31 October, with no weather warnings for the week. Bhuntar recorded only 0.4 mm of rain in the 24 hours to 8:30 am on 25 October. IMD's city forecast for Kullu shows mainly clear skies and minimums of 8 to 10 °C with maximums of 25 to 27 °C from 25 to 30 October.
So the coming days look good for riding, but after any rain or snow spell the next morning or two will be colder, with more damp patches in the shade.
Your daily riding window: about 10 am to 4 pm
On paper, November days are still more than ten hours long. These are calculated sunrise and sunset times for Kasol:
| Date | Sunrise | Sunset |
|---|---|---|
| 1 November | about 6:37 am | about 5:30 pm |
| 15 November | about 6:49 am | about 5:20 pm |
| 30 November | about 7:02 am | about 5:15 pm |
In practice, the riding day is shorter. These times assume an open horizon, but the Parvati runs in a deep, narrow valley, so the sun reaches the road late and leaves it by mid-afternoon. Damp patches in the shade can be frosty after a clear night.
A simple rule works well:
- Before 10 am: have breakfast, walk, and let the sun get onto the road.
- 10 am to 3 pm: do the riding, especially any stretch above Manikaran.
- By 4 pm: be back in Kasol or wherever you are staying. Do not plan to ride the valley road after dark: it is narrow, there is little lighting and the temperature falls quickly.
Five rides and walks that suit November
All distances are approximate road distances from central Kasol, measured with open map routing.
| Plan | Distance from Kasol | Time needed | Best bike | November note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Manikaran | about 4 km | Half a day | Scooter or motorcycle | Easy any day; go late morning |
| Barshaini, with the walk to Kalga or Pulga | about 16 to 20 km | Full day | Motorcycle preferred | Check Ghatigad first; start down by 3 pm |
| Tosh | Barshaini plus a short, steep climb | Full day or overnight | Motorcycle, or park and walk | Coldest of these places; stay over rather than ride down late |
| Chalal | Walk from Kasol | 2 to 3 hours | No bike needed | Good for a cold morning or a rest day |
| Jari and the lower valley | about 9 km | Half a day | Scooter or motorcycle | Combine with fuel; avoid riding back in the dark |
1. Manikaran: the easy, warm half day
Manikaran is the obvious first ride: about 4 km up the valley from Kasol, mostly on the busy, familiar stretch of road. The town is known for its hot springs, its gurdwara and its temples, which stand side by side on the bank of the Parvati. On a cold November day, the steam rising from the springs is part of the scene.
Ride up in the late morning, when the road is in the sun. If you are visiting in the second half of November, expect more pilgrims than usual around Guru Nanak Jayanti on 24 November, and allow extra time for parking.
2. Barshaini, Kalga and Pulga: the full day
Barshaini is the road end of the upper Parvati valley, about 16 to 20 km from Kasol depending on where you start. Beyond it you walk: Kalga is a short climb from the road head and Pulga is across the footbridge. Our guide to riding from Kasol to Barshaini and walking on to Kalga and Pulga covers the route, the walks and parking in detail.
November changes two things. First, timing: leave Kasol around 10 am, spend the middle of the day walking and start back down by about 3 pm so that you are off the narrow road before the shade and the cold set in. Second, the Ghatigad stretch between Manikaran and Barshaini. It has been a landslide spot through 2026, and slides have happened there even on dry nights. A dry November does not make it safe by default. Ask your guesthouse or a local driver who has been up that morning before you set off, and if traffic is stopped at a slide, wait well back from the slope or turn around.
3. Tosh: the cold, quiet one
Tosh sits above Barshaini, up a short, steep and rough climb beside the Tosh stream. It is the highest and coldest of the places on this list. Many riders park lower down and walk the last part.
In November, Tosh works best as an overnight stop rather than an out-and-back ride from Kasol, so that you are not coming down the steep section on a cold, shaded road late in the day. Check that your room has a heater or plenty of blankets.
4. Chalal: the walk for a cold morning
You do not need the bike for Chalal. It is a walk across the Parvati from Kasol, along a riverside path through the pines. It is ideal for the first, coldest hours of a November day, while you wait for the sun to reach the road. See our guide on why Chalal runs quieter than Kasol for the route.
5. Jari and the lower valley: fuel and a short ride
Jari is about 9 km down the valley from Kasol, on the way to Bhuntar. The fuel stations listed by IndianOil and HPCL for this part of the valley are on the Manikaran road around Jari, so it is the place to fill up before a day up to Barshaini or Tosh. Keep the return in daylight, as buses and trucks use this narrow road too.
Kheerganga in November: plan for the 10 am cut-off
Kheerganga is the meadow and hot spring above Barshaini that draws many people to the Parvati valley. The rules changed in 2024. As The Tribune reported in July 2024, the forest department banned camping in the Kheerganga area, removed the tents and asked visitors to reach Kheerganga before 10 am and start back by 2 pm. It also said it would install a barrier at Icy Point on the trail from Barshaini. Overnight stays are allowed lower down, at Nakthan, Barshaini, Kalga or Tosh.
In November that rule matters even more. The climb from Barshaini takes most people several hours and the sun rises at about 6:40 to 7 am, so riding up from Kasol the same morning will not get you there by 10 am.
The plan that works:
- Day 1: ride from Kasol to Barshaini in the late morning, park the bike where your guesthouse tells you to and walk up to Kalga or Nakthan for the night.
- Day 2: start the climb at first light, reach Kheerganga before 10 am, start down by 2 pm and spend the second night at the same place.
- Day 3: walk down to the bike in the morning sun and ride back to Kasol by lunchtime.
Tell the bike's owner at pickup that it will be parked at Barshaini overnight. Check the trail with locals before you go: after a western disturbance, the upper part of the trek can have snow or ice even when the valley is dry.
Road checks before every ride
Getting to Kasol in November is usually the easy part. The extensions up the valley need a quick check every morning:
- Ghatigad: ask whether the Manikaran to Barshaini road is open before you leave Kasol.
- Weather: read the IMD Shimla bulletin the evening before. Light rain in the valley can mean snow higher up and a colder, damper road the next morning.
- Shade and frost: slow down before shaded bends and near streams, and brake before a corner, not in it.
- Coming from Manali or Kullu: if you are riding in from Manali, our Manali to Kasol by bike route guide covers the 80 km ride, including the Kullu Dussehra traffic orders that apply in Kullu town until 8 November.
Download an offline map and carry cash before you head upriver; mobile data is patchy up there.
Which bike to rent in Kasol for November
On 25 October 2026, these were the vehicles listed on Hire N Ride's Kasol page:
| Bike | Price per day | Refundable deposit | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suzuki Avenis 125 scooter (2025) | Rs 739 | Rs 1,000 | Kasol, Manikaran, Jari, solo riders |
| Royal Enfield Hunter 350 (2024) | Rs 1,399 | Rs 1,500 | Barshaini road, two-up riding, longer days |
For the core Kasol to Manikaran stretch and short rides, the scooter is enough and easy to park. For the narrower, broken road to Barshaini, a heavier motorcycle with bigger wheels feels more settled, especially with a pillion. Prices and availability change, so check the listing for your dates, and ask about the kilometre limit, fuel policy and the deposit refund when you book. Both are petrol vehicles; neither includes fuel.
What to pack for a November ride
- Layers: a thermal base layer, a fleece or light down jacket and a windproof outer layer. You will add and remove them through the day.
- Full gloves: riding gloves, plus a warm pair for the evenings.
- A full-face helmet or a neck warmer under an open-face one, because the wind chill on the bike is the coldest part of the day.
- Documents: your original driving licence for the vehicle class and photo ID. For Kheerganga, carry the ID on the trail as well.

Frequently asked questions
Is November a good time to visit Kasol by bike?
Yes, if you are ready for cold. At Bhuntar, the nearest IMD station, November averages only about 25 mm of rain over fewer than two rainy days, so most days are dry and clear. Nights are cold, with a long-term average minimum of about 4.6 °C at Bhuntar and colder at Kasol, which is roughly 500 m higher. Ride in the middle of the day.
What time should I ride around Kasol in November?
Between about 10 am and 4 pm. Before that, shaded bends on the Parvati road are cold and can be damp or frosty, and the valley loses direct sun well before sunset, which falls from about 5:30 pm on 1 November to about 5:15 pm on 30 November.
Can I do Kheerganga as a day trip from Kasol in November?
Not comfortably. Since July 2024 the forest department has allowed Kheerganga only as a day visit: reach it before 10 am and start down by 2 pm, with no camping at the top. With late sunrises in November, the practical way is to ride to Barshaini the day before, sleep at Barshaini, Kalga, Nakthan or Tosh, and start the climb at first light.
Is the road from Kasol to Barshaini open in November?
It is normally open, but the Ghatigad stretch between Manikaran and Barshaini has had repeated landslides through 2026. Ask your guesthouse or a local driver that morning, and turn back rather than cross an active slide.
Where can I get petrol near Kasol?
The fuel stations listed by IndianOil and HPCL for this part of the valley are on the Manikaran road around Jari, about 9 km below Kasol. Fill up there before riding up to Manikaran, Barshaini or Tosh.
Which bike should I rent in Kasol for November?
On 25 October 2026 Hire N Ride listed a Suzuki Avenis scooter at Rs 739 a day (Rs 1,000 deposit) and a Royal Enfield Hunter 350 at Rs 1,399 a day (Rs 1,500 deposit) in Kasol. The scooter is fine for Kasol, Manikaran and Jari; take the Hunter if you plan to ride the narrower, broken road to Barshaini or carry a pillion.
Conclusion
Kasol in November by bike is a quieter, clearer and colder version of the autumn trip. The data backs up what riders find on the ground: it is one of the driest months of the year, with near-freezing nights and short, sunny riding days. Use the middle of the day for riding and the mornings for walks like Chalal. Keep Manikaran for an easy half day, give Barshaini and Kalga a full day with a Ghatigad check, and treat Tosh and Kheerganga as overnight trips because of the forest department's 10 am cut-off. Pick a scooter for the lower valley or the Hunter 350 for the Barshaini road, pack layers and be back before the shade sets in.
