Host Terms
Version 1.1 · Effective 4 October 2026
These Host Terms replace the Hire N Ride Host Marketplace Services Agreement from the effective date of version 1.1. If you accepted that earlier agreement, these Host Terms apply instead from that date, and you must accept this version in the app. Bookings confirmed before that date continue on the terms that applied to them.
These Host Terms apply when you list a vehicle on Hire N Ride. They are in addition to the Terms of Use, the Fee Policy and the Privacy Policy. Capitalised terms have the meanings given in the Terms of Use.
1. Our role
1.1 Hire N Ride is a marketplace and intermediary only. We do not own, lease, hire, operate, maintain or insure your vehicle. We are not a party to the lease between you and a Rider. You are the lessor and are solely responsible for your vehicle and its legal compliance.
1.2 Any document check we carry out is for our own risk management only. It does not reduce your obligations.
2. Host eligibility and KYC
2.1 You must be at least 18 years old and complete Host KYC: identity, PAN, address, a verified bank account and, if registered, your GSTIN.
2.2 You must be the registered owner of the vehicle. If the vehicle is hypothecated, you need the financier's written consent to lease it.
3. Vehicle categories
3.1 For each vehicle you must declare one of the following categories, and keep the declaration accurate:
| Category | What it means | Availability |
|---|---|---|
| Category A: Commercial / transport vehicle (default, preferred) | Registered as a transport vehicle, carrying the transport registration plate, with a valid permit, licence or authorisation for rental without driver (for example under the Rent a Cab Scheme, 1989 or the Rent a Motorcycle Scheme, 1997) for the area and purpose of the booking. | All vehicle types. |
| Category B: Private / non-transport vehicle ("white plate"), opt-in | Registered as a non-transport (private) vehicle. | Only in cities and for vehicle types where Hire N Ride has enabled it, and only after you accept the risk acknowledgement in Section 4. Category B is not available for two-wheelers. We may withdraw Category B anywhere at any time on notice. |
3.2 We check your declaration against VAHAN. If the registration category on VAHAN does not match your declaration, your listing will not go live.
3.3 For a two-wheeler you must upload a valid Rent a Motorcycle Scheme operator licence, and the vehicle must be 7 years old or newer.
4. Category B: your acceptance of risk
If you list a Category B vehicle, you confirm that we have told you, and you understand, that:
(a) authorities, courts or insurers may treat leasing a private vehicle to Riders for money as use of the vehicle for hire or reward requiring a permit under section 66 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. This may expose you and the driver to penalties (including under section 192A) and the vehicle to seizure; (b) your private-vehicle insurance policy may exclude hire use, and your insurer may reject own-damage or theft claims, or pay third-party claims and recover them from you; (c) Hire N Ride does not advise that Category B listing is lawful in any state, and nothing on the Platform is legal advice; (d) you have been advised to take independent legal and insurance advice; and (e) you list the vehicle at your sole risk, and all the consequences above are yours under Sections 8 and 10.
You must never misstate the vehicle's category or use to any Rider, authority or insurer. We will never ask you to do so.
5. Documents and verification
5.1 Before listing, and on each renewal, you must upload: the RC; the full insurance policy schedule; the PUC certificate; the fitness certificate (where required); the permit or RAC/RAM authorisation (Category A); for a two-wheeler, the Rent a Motorcycle Scheme operator licence; road tax proof; and the financier's NOC (if hypothecated). A two-wheeler must be 7 years old or newer.
5.2 You consent to us verifying your details and your vehicle on VAHAN, Parivahan, e-challan portals, insurer portals and through verification providers, both at onboarding and at any time afterwards.
5.3 Expiry. We send reminders 30, 15 and 3 days before a document expires. A listing is automatically paused when any required document expires or is found invalid, and it is reactivated once valid documents have been uploaded and verified.
5.4 You must produce original documents or the vehicle for inspection within 48 hours of our reasonable request.
6. Your warranties
You promise, continuously while a vehicle is listed and throughout every booking, that:
(a) the category you declared is correct and, for Category A, every permit or authorisation is valid and its conditions are being followed; (b) all documents are genuine, valid and current; (c) you have told your insurer in writing about the rental use, and your declared insurance details (insurer, policy number, type, validity and any endorsement) are true; (d) the vehicle is roadworthy and safe, meets our Vehicle Condition Guidelines, and has no undisclosed defect; (e) there are no pending challans, claims, seizures or proceedings that restrict the lease; (f) your listing (photos, details, kilometre limits, fuel policy, price) is accurate; and (g) you comply with all laws on the ownership, registration, tax, insurance, listing and leasing of the vehicle.
You must tell us within 24 hours if any of these stops being true, and pause the listing immediately.
7. Your obligations for every booking
(a) Accept each Booking Agreement in the app by ticking an unticked checkbox and tapping "I Agree", and, if the app asks, by confirming with a one-time password sent to your registered mobile. This acceptance binds you as lessor under the Indian Contract Act, 1872. It is not unenforceable merely because it was made in electronic form (Information Technology Act, 2000, section 10A). No signature is needed. Hand over the vehicle only after the Platform shows that both you and the Rider have accepted it. (b) Check the Rider's original driving licence against the app KYC, and check that it covers the vehicle class (MCWG, MCWOG or LMV). (c) Complete the in-app handover and return checklist (timestamped photos/video, odometer, fuel), as set out in the Vehicle Handover & Delivery Policy. (d) Hand over the vehicle clean, safe and roadworthy, with its documents. For two-wheelers, provide one ISI-marked helmet in good condition (and a second for a pillion, where booked). (e) Honour confirmed bookings at the confirmed price. If you cancel a confirmed booking, the Rider receives a full refund, including the platform fee. You are charged a penalty of 10% of the rental. After 10 such cancellations, we may deactivate your account. (f) Notify us within 2 hours of any accident, theft, seizure, insurance rejection or police matter. (g) Never ask for or accept payments, deposits or documents outside the Platform. (h) Use Rider data only for the booking and for claims or challans from it. Keep booking and KYC data for at least 90 days after the trip ends, then delete it unless the law requires you to keep it longer. Report any data breach to us within 24 hours.
8. Your liability; fines and seizure
8.1 As between you and Hire N Ride, you are solely responsible for your vehicle and everything connected with it, including accidents, theft, injury, death and property damage arising from its condition or documents, and any claim by a Rider or third party.
8.2 Fines split:
| Type | Who pays |
|---|---|
| Vehicle Compliance Fines: anything arising from the vehicle's registration, registration category, permit or permit conditions, number plates, documents, insurance, PUC, fitness or tax, including seizure, detention and release costs | You (the Host), always, whoever is driving |
| Driving Fines: speeding, red-light, helmet, seat-belt, parking, tolls, etc. during a booking | The Rider. You may recover them through the Platform (deposit deduction), within the claim window |
8.3 If a vehicle is seized for a vehicle-compliance reason, you bear all costs and refund the Rider's unused rental through the Platform.
9. Insurance
9.1 You must maintain valid motor insurance at all times while the vehicle is listed. It must at least meet Motor Vehicles Act requirements, and comprehensive cover is recommended. Category A vehicles must have a policy issued for commercial/rental use.
9.2 Upload each policy and renewal, and tell us within 24 hours of any cancellation, lapse or claim rejection.
9.3 Hire N Ride is not an insurer or insurance intermediary. We do not pay for damage or loss ourselves, and we are not responsible for any gap in cover or any rejected claim.
10. Indemnity
You will indemnify Hire N Ride (and its owners, officers, employees and agents) against losses, fines, penalties, claims and reasonable legal costs arising from: your vehicle, its category, permits, documents or insurance; any booking or dealing with a Rider; any death, injury or damage caused by the vehicle; your breach of these Host Terms or the law; and your negligence, misrepresentation or fraud. We may conduct the defence of any claim against us. You may not settle such a claim without our written consent. We may recover indemnified amounts from your payouts.
11. Fees, payouts, holds and set-off
11.1 Our commission is 20% of the rental, excluding taxes and the security deposit. It is deducted from each payout and shown in your Host dashboard.
11.2 Payment by a Rider to Hire N Ride counts as payment to you. We credit your payout within one week on working days after the trip is completed, to your verified bank account, after commission, taxes (GST TCS and income-tax TDS where applicable) and any set-off.
11.3 We may hold payouts and set off amounts as described in the Terms of Use (Sections 7.4–7.5). If you owe us more than your available payouts, you must pay the shortfall within 7 days, and we may pause your listings until you do.
11.4 After your account closes, we may hold your final payout for 60 days to cover claims, chargebacks and fines.
12. Claims against Riders
To be processed through the Platform (including deduction from the deposit), you must raise claims within these windows:
- damage, fuel, accessory and late return: within 24 hours of the vehicle's return, with checklist evidence;
- challans: within 90 days of the booking end;
- payout disputes: within 30 days of the payout.
These windows are how the Platform processes claims. They do not take away rights you have under the law. We will help with recovery beyond the deposit, but we do not guarantee it.
13. Non-circumvention
While your account is open, and for 12 months after it closes, do not take a booking off the Platform from a Rider you met through it. If you do, you must pay Hire N Ride the commission that booking would have earned, and we may close your account.
14. Listing content
You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display and adapt your listing photos and content to operate and promote the Platform. You confirm that you have the right to grant it.
15. Liability cap
Our total liability to you is the lower of (a) the commission we received from you in the 3 months before the claim, and (b) ₹10,000, except where the law does not allow a cap (Terms of Use, Section 10).
16. Suspension and termination
Either of us may end these Host Terms on 15 days' notice. We may suspend or remove a listing or account immediately for the reasons in the Terms of Use, Section 8.2, including document expiry, a wrong category declaration, or withdrawal of Category B. Bookings in progress continue under their Booking Agreements.
17. Disputes
Disputes between you and Hire N Ride are resolved through grievance redressal, then by arbitration seated in Mohali before a mutually appointed sole arbitrator (no unilateral appointment), as set out in the Terms of Use, Section 16.
18. Independent advice
You confirm that we advised you to take your own legal, tax and insurance advice, and that you have not relied on anything we said about whether any use of your vehicle is lawful.
